What Should Be Included on a HVAC Maintenance Checklist

Check for wear and tear and proper operation

  • Pulleys

  • Refrigerant charge

  • Blowers and blades (for proper airflow)

Inspect for

  • Mold
  • Dust
  • Debris

Other

  • Check humidity levels
  • Test thermostats and controls to ensure proper functioning
  • Switch any old batteries for new ones
  • Lubricate all moving parts, especially motor bearings

All the above are for required for standard HVAC maintenance, but you should also perform the following during the fall or winter months:

  • Replace all filters
  • Inspect the ignition burner assembly for proper functioning
  • Check the heat exchanger or heating elements for proper functioning
  • Examine the flue system
  • Ensure the flue system is properly attached to the furnace
  • Inspect for any potential gas leaks
  • Assess the pressure of the gas to make sure it is correct
  • Inspect the heat pump for proper functioning
  • Examine all duct work and vents
